WORLD’S RICHEST MAN “QARUN”
While mentioning Qarun’s treasure Allah Ta’alah says in the Holy Quran;
“Indeed Qarun was from the people of Musa, then he rebelled against
them. And We had given to him such treasures as their keys would weigh too
heavy for a strong group of people. (Remember) when his people said to him, “Do
not exult. Surely, Allah does not like the exultant”.” [28:76]
The
keys to his treasures were so heavy that a group of people were required to
carry those keys. One person alone was unable to carry those keys. When he used
to travel with all his wealth, some people used to say with envy that we wish
we had been granted as much wealth as has been granted to Qarun. Quran Karim
says about such people that these people were envious towards Qarun because
they could only see his obvious wealth. They did not know what punishment
awaited him. When the same people saw Qarun’s ultimate fate they thanked Allah
Ta’alah that they were not given the same fate as Qarun. The point is that
there is no limit to material wealth. If a person spends his whole life
striving to earn it, he will still be unable to achieve it all. The only way he
will achieve satisfaction is through following the guidance given by the Holy
Prophet ﷺ to become content, that is to develop
contentment (قناعت) with what one has been able to earn through Halal and
permissible means. Once a person develops contentment, then whatever he has
been granted becomes sufficient for him.
