WISHING I WAS BORN IN THE DAYS OF THE HOLY PROPHET ﷺ
Sometimes people wish that they were born in the days of
the Holy Prophet ﷺ so that they could see him in person, could accompany the
Sahaba, and could participate in Ghazvat (the holy wars in which the Holy
Prophet ﷺ participated). But in reality,
maybe it was a blessing from Allah Ta’alah that we were not born in those days.
It was the capacity and perseverance of Sahaba (Holy Companions) RAA that they
stood side by side the Holy Prophet ﷺ under such difficult circumstances. If we had been born in the
same era, with our capacity and our weaknesses, who knows whether we would have
been on the side of the Sahaba or standing beside Abu Jahal and Abu Lahab.
However, the Holy Prophet ﷺ has set out some basic rules for human
beings who would be born right up to the time of the Qiyamah. We are allowed to
utilise the material world to fulfil our needs, but not fall in love with it or
become completely preoccupied with it. We are allowed to obtain wealth through
Halal (allowed) means, but to refrain from obtaining it through Hara’am
(illegal) means. As long as we can remain within these boundaries to the best
of our capacity and abilities, we would have fulfilled our obligation towards
not developing love for Dunya.
