ASHAB-E-SUFFAH (اصحابِ صفّہ)
In this Hadith Hazrat Abu Hurairah RAA is describing the conditions
Ashab-e-Suffah used to live in. Ashab-e-Suffah were those Holy Companions
(Sahaba) who had given up all other activities of the world and used to live in
the company of the Holy Prophet ﷺ all the time to learn the Deen (religious knowledge) from him. There
was no particular time of day or set curriculum for them to learn about Deen. They
used to memorize every time the Holy Prophet ﷺ saw them and told them anything about Deen. Similarly, when
someone came and asked the Holy Prophet ﷺ a question, they memorized the question and its answer. They
also memorized how Holy Prophet ﷺ dealt with people coming for different purposes. The lives of
the Ashab-e-Suffah were devoted to this purpose alone. This was the first
university and seat of learning in the history of Islam.
