IS IT DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW THE DEEN (RELIGION)?
Sometimes after reading Ahadith such as above weak-willed
people like us start despairing that it is not possible for us to follow the
Deen fully. It was only possible for people like Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar,
and Hazrat Abu Hurairah RAA to practice it. It is not possible for us to remain
without food for so many days, or to just keep wearing a sheet of cloth, or to
not repair our hut when it needs repair, or to start thinking that the Day of
Qiyamah is close when we start repairing our hut. Please understand that the
purpose of narrating these incidents is not make a person hopeless or despair.
The purpose is to elaborate that this was the highest standard of behavior that
the Holy Prophet ﷺ created in the Sahaba (Holy Companions). But it is not necessary
that every human being needs to reach that highest standard of behavior before
he or she will receive forgiveness from Allah Ta’alah. Rather every person’s
capacity and capability is different, and in the Holy Quran Allah Ta’alah says,
“Allah does not obligate anyone beyond his capacity” (2:286). We will
have to answer whether we did everything that was within our capacity.
