TRANSLATION:
[4:29]
O you who believe, do not devour each other‘s property by false means, unless it is trade conducted with your mutual consent. Do not kill one another {25}. Indeed, Allah has been Very-Merciful to you.
INTERPRETATION:
[4:29]
O you who believe, do not devour each other‘s property by false means, unless it is trade conducted with your mutual consent. Do not kill one another {25}. Indeed, Allah has been Very-Merciful to you.
INTERPRETATION:
{25} The simple
meaning of this verse is that just like devouring another person’s financial
assets through impermissible means is Hara’am (unlawful), taking someone’s life
is even more strongly prohibited.
By referring to taking
someone else’s life as ‘taking one’s own life’ it has been pointed out that
killing someone else is eventually killing oneself, because as a consequence of
that the perpetrator may be killed too, and even if they are not killed the
punishment they will get for it in Aakhirah (Hereafter) will be worse than
death. This interpretation also prohibits killing oneself.
Putting taking
someone’s property unlawfully and killing oneself together, might also mean
that the outcome of the practice of devouring other people’s property
unlawfully becoming commonplace in a society leads to the collective suicide of
that society.
