SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 176-179

TRANSLATION:

[3:176]
Those who hasten towards disbelief should not make you grieve. They cannot harm Allah at all. Allah intends not to spare for them any share in the Hereafter. For them there is a mighty punishment.

[3:177]
Certainly, those who bought disbelief in exchange for Belief cannot harm Allah at all. For them there is a painful punishment.

[3:178]
Those who disbelieve should not think that the respite We give them is good for them. In fact, We give them respite only that they may increase in sin, and for them there is a humiliating punishment.

[3:179]
Allah is not to leave the believers in the state you are in, unless He separates the impure from the pure. Allah is not to inform you of the Unseen. But Allah selects from His messengers whom He wills. So, believe in Allah and His messengers. If you believe, and fear Allah, you will deserve a great reward.

INTERPRETATION:

{60} In the verses 176 to 178 Allah Ta’alah has responded to the doubt that if Allah Ta’alah dislikes non-believers, then why have they been granted such a life of luxury in this world? In reply it has been said that as these people will not get any reward for their good deeds in the Aakhirah (Hereafter), therefore, Allah Ta’alah has given them leeway in this world, because of which they are getting involved in even more sins. A time is going to come when they will have to face punishment for all their deeds. In verse 179, the opposing doubt has been responded to that if Allah Ta’alah likes Muslims, then why are they facing all these hardships in this world? In this verse, it has been replied that Muslims are facing all these hardships so that it becomes clear to them who is pure in his claim of Iman (faith), and who isn’t. Allah Ta’alah cannot let Muslims be without this clarification, and it is only in hardships that it becomes clear who is true to the path of Iman. Someone could have asked why Allah Ta’alah doesn’t tell Muslims this without putting them into difficulties. The answer to that is Allah Ta’alah doesn’t tell everyone about the unseen, He only tells His Messenger as much as He wants to. It is a demand of His wisdom that Muslims should see the duplicity of the Hypocrites with their own eyes and then form their own opinions, that is why they face these hardships. Further wisdom behind these hardships has been explained in verse 185 and 186.
