SURAH AL-E-IMRAN: 123-127

TRANSLATION:

[3:123]
Allah certainly supported you at Badr when you were weak. {42} So, fear Allah that you may be grateful
[3:124]
When you were saying to the believers, "Shall it not suffice you that your Lord should help you with three thousand of the angels sent down (for you)?"
[3:125]
Of course, if you stay patient and fear Allah, and they come upon you even in this heat of theirs, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand of the angels, each having distinct marks. {43}
[3:126]
And Allah did this solely to make it a good news for you, and so that your hearts may be at rest with it. Otherwise, victory is from none but Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise.
[3:127]
(Allah helped you) so that He may cut off a flank of disbelievers or throw them down in disgrace, and they go back frustrated.

INTERPRETATION:

{42} In Ghazvah Badar the total number of Muslim warriors was three hundred and thirteen, and they had seventy camels, two horses and only eight swords.

{43} This is a reference to Ghazvah Badar. Before the battle began Muslims had been promised that they will be reinforced with three thousand angels. Later on, the Holy Companions (Sahaba) heard that Kurz ibn Jabir was coming with his army to join the non-believers. The number of non-believers was already three times that of the Muslims. When the Muslims heard about this army joining the non-believers their apprehension increased. At that time, Allah Ta’alah promised that if that army came the Muslims will be reinforced with five thousand angels. But then Kurz’s army didn’t come so there was no need to send five thousand angels.
