In a Hadith the Holy Prophet ﷺ said that the one thing that is most likely to cause a person to fall afce down in Hell (Jahannum) is his tongue. So, before a person opens their mouth to speak they should just pause for a moment and think whether what they are going to say is the right and just thing to say. If a person starts practicing it then slowly and gradually he gets used to doing it. Then it doesn't take him long to make a decision about it, it takes him a moment to decide whether he should say what he is going to say, or not. Then he only says what is the just and right thing to say. He doesn't say things which displease Allah Ta'alah, and which hurt other people. The main point to remember is that our tongue is a blessing bestowed upon us by Allah Ta'alah, and we should use it in accordance with the wishes of Allah Ta'alah.
